Business Meeting
August 17, 2026
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 7:31 pm by Grand Knight Mike Sabella.
Opening Prayer
Opening prayer was led by the Grand Knight
Pledge of Allegiance
Warden Mike Mallon led the members in the flag salute.
Chaplain’s Report
There was no chaplain for a Chaplain report
Minutes of the Previous Meeting
The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted on a motion by Bob Jacob, seconded by Gerry Kaufhold and accepted by unanimous vote?
Membership Report
Membership Chair reported that there should have been a new member (Carlos) here tonight, but he did not show up.
Grand Knight’s Report
- We support lots of things and organizations.
- We went to Paterson (8/16), got rained on, but sold about 32 tickets.
- Focus: PJ Ferrugia left the college evangelization program. A new person, Taylor, works in the Summer program. She will remain engaged and we will support Taylor.
- We settled on the design for the outdoor station of the cross.
- Sept. 28, 2026: CUFF degree
- October 2026: Officers’ installation
Treasurer’s Report
Income in July: $13,688 – bingo contributes $12,386 of the $13,688
Expenses: $14,132
Trustees’ Report
Bingo (Michael Mallon): Generally, bingo is doing well – Need help in the kitchen. Need help cleaning up the room after bingo, preferably on Monday to take the wall down after mass.
Faith kitchen (Lenny): Due next month (September) – Joe Tarallo comment: Any new member we can use? We can rotate if people are interested in Faith kitchen.
Blood Drive (Gerard): Aug. 8: Amazing results – (179 registered, [17 from our council], 118 donations for all blood types, 12 first time donors, (including 2 teens, student sponsors who received scholarships from NY Blood Center); $175 donated. Note: 193 products serve 579 patients.
Golf Outing: Oct. 8 from Mary Hallaway for CJD disease center
Golf Outing (Jimmy): Federation (Sept 14) – Warren Wormann (Sept 21)
Wreath drive: Oct. -more info to come- the proceed goes to Food for family.
Audit: Financial audit submitted on time. 132 members, 32 insurance members.
Tax report: To get back our non-profit status.
Parish breakfast (Sal): Sept 13: 11:00a – 12:45p – Need help before and after for set-up and breakdown.
March for Life (Gerry Kaufhold): Every Wednesday- Rosary
Oct 8 trip to Trenton
Diaper drive (Gerry Kaufhold): October- No date set yet
First weekend in Nov. Raffle for NJ for life
Care Net fundraiser banquet: October 15, Hawk Point Golf Country Club

Squires for Christ: We are in the process of changing paperwork – Girls are welcome, but are not being recruited.
Evangelization Faith Formation (EFF) (Paul): Go to “Mass explained” by Mike Schmidth (Meeting on Aug. 22)
POW/MIA day (Bob): 3rd Friday in September
Soccer challenge – Mid to end of Sept (Watral)
Unfinished Business:
- A motion for the Council to donate $1,000 to a husband and wife in need, parishioners of St Jude, to help defray medical costs from both being in poor health was seconded by Jake and the motion was passed.
- A motion for the Council to donate $2,500 to St Joseph by the Sea HS Pillar Fund for their 25th anniversary to support Catholic education, helping offset the cost of tuition for students in need along with honoring the memory of the 8 alumni who perish on 9/11, was seconded by Mike and the motion was passed.
- A motion for the Council to spend up to $7,000 to pay for the expediting services to submit a grant application to the Department of Homeland Security to make upgrades to the church security and telephone systems, was seconded by Chip and the motion was passed
- A motion for the Council to spend up to $750 to pay for the food and drinks for a “Coffee And” event to be held on 9/13/26 in the Parish Center after the 10am mass, was seconded by Sal and the motion was passed.
New Business:
- 1st reading: Motion for the council to spend $300 a month for 12 months for a total of $3,600 to support a missionary who will be volunteering with the FOCUS group at colleges and universities around the country, was made by Chip and seconded by Wally. 1st reading passed.
- Motion for the council to spend $500 for a bus rental for the trip to Trenton to attend March for Life planned for October 8th, 2026, was made by Gerry Kaufold and seconded by Sal. The motion was passed.
- Motion for the council to spend $500 for diapers for the upcoming Diaper Drive, was made by Gerry Kaufold and seconded by Sal. Supplies will be donated to CareNet, Pregancy Resources and Birth Haven. The motion was passed.
- Motion for the council to spend up to $100 to replace the posters carried during the 40-day for Life events, was made by Paul and seconded by Lenny. The motion was passed.
- Motion for the council to donate $500 to support a seminarian Brian Collins through the RSVP program was made by Tom Rohe and seconded by Lenny. The motion was passed.
- Motion for the council to donate $500 to support a seminarian Jean Baptiste Mollet through the RSVP program, was made by Joe Tarallo and seconded by Tom Rohe. The motion was passed.
- 1st reading: Motion for the council to spend up to $750 to support state retreat on October 16-18 by reimbursing any knight who attends $75.00 (up to 10 people), was made by Gerard and seconded by Paul. 1st reading passed.
- Motion to reimburse a knight $40.26 for the purchase of plastic chains that were installed on the damaged stairs sections at the front of the church, was made by Chip and seconded by Lenny. The motion was passed.
- Motion for the council to spend $500 to buy lights to retrofit two more housing units in the church and narthex to test light in those locations, was made by Tom Rohe and seconded by Joe Tarallo. The motion was passed.
- 1st reading: Motion for the council to donate $2,000 to support the mens’s cornerstone retreat being held on October 23-24 at St Jude’s, was made by Paul and seconded by Gerry. 1st reading passed.
District Deputy Report
Jim Sweeney – Supreme director elect – in Denver meeting
Need 2 new members for star council
Columbian year 27-28, changes are being made. As of June 30, all financial secretaries will be relieved of duty. They will be elected for 1 year, not 3.
As of next year, there will no longer be inside/outside guards – same with chancellors, they will no longer be elected.
Trustee: Only 1 trustee, but you can elect to have 3.
Bylaws will need to be changed/updated.
Officers’ installation- need to work on date.
After 1st of the year, it is good to have another CUFF degree.
Annual council audit was due Aug. 15- Copy District deputy in the emails.
