January 2024 Meeting Minutes

January 15, 2024

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 7:34 pm by Grand Knight (GK) Dan Fuller.

Warden’s Report

All present were in possession of a current membership card.

Opening Prayer

Opening prayer was led by GK Dan Fuller.

Pledge of Allegiance

Salute to the flag was led by the council members.

Chaplain report

There was no chaplain report as the Chaplain was not present.

Minutes of the Previous Meeting

Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted on a motion by Wally Krake III, seconded by Joseph Tarallo and also by a unanimous vote.

Grand Knight’s Report (Dan Fuller)

  • Bingo company is coming on Tuesday.  We need to complete final installs on Sturday at 9:30am.  Thanks to all for your  efforts.
  • March for Life is on Friday 1/19/2024.  There is still room on the bus, which will be leaving from St. Joseph Church in Mendham.
  • Lent is starting soon.  The Council has been asked to lead Stations of the Cross at 7pm.
  • Next project is to fix the chairs.  We will begin on the first Tuesday in February.  It will be announced in the bulletin & we will work with the parish community.
  • Corpus Christi – There will be a procession in the parking lot after the 12:00 mass and reception after the procession at the parish center
  • Dues ($25) are now due for 2024 via cash or check, payable to K of C 6100.
  • Thank you for your participation in the funeral for Frank Devens.  Mary and Frank’s sister were very appreciative.
  • June is coming, so we will need a volunteer to fill the Deputy Grand Knight role.

Treasurer’s Report (Wally Krake)

The Bank statement was sent to trustees.  A copy can be obtained upon request.

Membership Report (Chip Sturm)

There is one person on the prospect list (Steven Andrew) who has not signed up yet, but wants to be a member.

Financial Secretary’s Report (Gerard Petrocelli)

Financial secretary’s report is emailed in advance to Trustees for approval of expenditures.

Program Reports – Led by John Watral

Bingo (Mike Mallon)- We had a small but good crowd.  Need to set up new board. We will be playing with new games with a 3-face board.  We can only charge a maximum of $5 and we need to get something for admission, so we will sell 3-face boards for $4plus add-ons for $3 for each additional 3-face board.

Mike M. will be leaving for NC on 2/1/24, so we will need additional help with setup.

Soup Kitchen (Lenny Martin) – Next event will be in 2 weeks.  Resurrection parish recently had an event with 52 take-outs.

Respect Life (Gerry Kaufhold) – The rose fundraiser raised $535.77.  Right to Life March will be held on 1/19/2024. This trip leaves at 6:30 am from the church for carpool to Mendham and returns at 10:30pm.  There are 16 seats reserved on the bus, but only 3 have signed up. We will bus to DC, attend mass celebrated by the Bishop and then process to the Mall.

Baby Bottle Boomerang (Gerry Kaufhold) – kicks off on 1/27/2024.  Bottles will be distributed at masses.

Blood Drive (Gerard Petrocelli) – Will be held on 1/27/2024.  Emails have been sent.  There is currently a blood emergency, due in part to loss of donors from Covid.  The shortage is impacting patients who need regular transfusions.

Audit (Gerard Petrocelli) – due 2/15/2024.  Audit will be done the 1st Monday in February.  Also, Form 1728 is due 1/31/2024.  Officers will work to complete.

Chairs Project – (Mike Sabella) – will begin after TVs are completed.

Squires(Tom Rohe) – Looking for new members. We need 10 members and currently have 9.  Also, need to stay compliant with S.A.F.E.

4th Degree (Tom Rohe) – Meeting tomorrow night 1/16/2024. Exemplification will be in April.  There will be a pasta dinner at St. Jude in Hopatcong.

Charity Mania (Tom Rohe) – Ended this past weekend. 2023 program earned $3,704, excluding postage.  Thanks for your participation.

  • Please continue to provide spiritual and financial support to the CPCs through ASAP, our needy families and Food Pantries through the Helping Hands and Food for Families Programs, our teens through the KofC Scholarships, and to your deacon candidates, seminarians and religious novices through our RSVP program, and please acknowledge their sacrifices through letters of appreciation. For any Council that donated to ASAP, please ensure you complete the ASAP paperwork to get the $100 matching from Supreme (KofC.org/ASAP).
    • January Religious & Civil Rights (R&C) Talking Points from Dr. Dan Rossi, PSD highlights:
    • Focus is on guidance on harassment in the workplace published by the EEOC
    • Guidelines state that sharing your beliefs on pro-life; gender identification; and sex-specific restrooms and dressing rooms, is considered harassment.
    • The USCCB does not believe this interpretation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act is supported by the text of Title VII of the Act and violates the principles of free speech, expressive association, and religious exercise. The USCCB does not believe that expressing our opposition to abortion, contraception, or same-sex unions constitutes harassment.
    • The USCCB recommends that the Commission revise the guidance to remove references because dissention from the assertions is constitutionally protected.

State Secretary Report (Jim Sweeney) – State Secretary was not in attendance.

Unfinished Business

  • Motion to spend up to $1,800 for 4 TVs for CCD classrooms was made by Gerry Kaufhold and seconded by Chip Sturm. – Second Reading Passed.

New business

  • Motion to budget up to $1,000 to cover expenses related to the Corpus Christi Procession and repast in June was made by Joe Tarallo and seconded by Pierre Kernizan – Passed Unanimously.
