Grand Knight’s Report (Dan Fuller)

I my time as Grand Knight, this council as been very supportive and we have accomplished much, including the First Annual Eucharistic Procession, many successful Blood Drives (Thanks, Gerard), participation in the Federation Golf Outings, sponsorship of P.J. Faruggia, support of Women’s Cornestone, providing TVs for classrooms to support Faith Formation, and refurbishment of Parish Center chairs and lighting.  We also have added new members to the Council, and those new members have been active.

With respect to the Eucharistic Procession, we worked with every parish agency to coordinate and host that special event, under the direction of Don Campbell, who spent many hours building the program with the event committee and sub committees where there was no blueprint to follow.  It is for that reason that I am please to present Don Campbell with the award for Knight of the Month.

After his report, GK Dan Fuller turned over the meeting to incoming GK, Joe Tarallo.

Treasurer’s Report (Gerard Petrocelli for Wally Krake Jr.)

The Bank statement was sent to trustees.  A copy can be obtained upon request.

Please remember that bingo funds our operations so we must continue to watch over and protect the business.

Membership Report (Chip Sturm)

We introduce new members to the Council, Waleed (“Wally”) Al-Nasser and Michael Liccone.  These are 2 new Knights that we met at the Eucharistic Procession.

Financial Secretary’s Report (Gerard Petrocelli)

Financial secretary’s report is emailed in advance to Trustees for approval of expenditures.

Program Reports – Led by John Watral

Bingo (Dan Fuller) – We held a bingo committee meeting to discuss changes to the program resulting from feedback from Bingo patrons.  We will be changing a few of the games, including a new Tri-Color game (White wins 25% of pot, Green wins 50% and Red wins 75%).  We will begin selling at the register as close to 6pm as possible and queue will continue directly to pull-tab desk.

Soup Kitchen (Lenny Martin)– at last event, we provided 68 dinners in house with 42 take outs.

Blood Drive (Gerard Petrocelli) – June 8 blood drive produced 101 blood products (77 whole and 13 ALYX).  We had 100 registered donors and 10 were deferred.  We have been averaging 143 blood products each event this year. The June and December drives used to be scholarship dives, but the NYBC asked us to flatten put donors evenly so no 1 drive is too crowded.

Eucharistic Procession (Don Campbell) – Event was held on June 2 and over 160 people attended.  Many people came forward to help. We will plan a debrief with Fr. Antonio to discuss what to add, what to drop and what to improve. If we would like the bishop to attend, we need to book him now for next year.  We will be discussing this with Fr. Antonio tomorrow.  This year was a discovery project, but now we have a blueprint.  Thanks to all that helped with this event.

Space Force Flagpole (Gerry) – The ceremony was cancelled but Gerry went and read the tributes at the veterans’ memorial plaques. It is posted to the Veterans’ Memorial website.  The memorial is a remarkable place that includes memorials to the branches of the armed services but also remembers war dogs and horses, the Bill of Right and includes famous presidential quotes.

Respect Life (Gerry Kaufhold) – We will be holding our baby shower with the Rosary Alter Society to collect diapers, clothes, etc. on June 22/23.  There will be a March for Life in September.

State convention (Tom Rohe) – was held in Wildwood on May 17-18. The bingo event was well received.  Jim Sweeney was elected State Secretary.  Next year he will be our State Deputy.  Jim is an active member of our Council.  The event in 2025 will be the weekend after Mothers’ Day.

Fourth Degree (Tom Rohe) – There will be a meeting tomorrow in Flanders Hall on Schmidt Lane – all are welcome to attend.  The focus of the Fourth Degre is support of veterans.

Squires (Tom Rohe) – The Squires are alive and well.  We participated in the Tank Pull on 6/9/2024 for the 14th consecutive year and raised $1,650 for veterans. Also, Noah Lopez, the Chief Squire was made an Eagle Scout.  The ceremony was impressive.  He was resented with congratulatory letters from our Grand Knight and from Tom Rohe.

Lighting project (Tom Rohe) – Installation is underway. After we are done, the new lighting will reduce the energy need from 12,480 watts to 480 watts.  Thanks to Pat Egan for providing a scaffold and for volunteers (Wally, Mike M., Mike S., Rob M.)

Scholarship Program (Dan Fuller) – Scholarships have been awarded.

This month’s talking and informational points for discussion and prayer focus on Catholic education in New Jersey. We understand that not all of the children and grandchildren of our Brother Knights attend Catholic schools. However, we feel that it is critical that all Knights support this vital service provided by our Church. Some key facts are that Catholic Schools:

  • Serve over 60,000 students across the state and provide much needed education to underserved communities.
  • Are committed to educating and developing the whole student, spiritually, socially and physically and students typically perform significantly higher than state and national averages compared to public school students, with graduation rates of 99.8% versus public schools of 91.0%
  • Funding for nursing programs and transportation has not kept up with inflation placing serious constraints on Catholic schools and their students.

The New Jersey Catholic Conference is requesting that we ask the Legislature to include budget resolutions for transportation and nursing services. More specifically, the ask is for the per-pupil amount for nonpublic school nursing to be increased to $160 to reflect the difficulty for Catholic and other nonpublic schools to attract nursing candidates. The ask for the nonpublic school transportation is for the ceiling to be increased to at least $1,233, which reflects the Consumer Price Index increase for busing for the upcoming school year.

If you are willing and able, we ask that you write to your state legislators and ask that they sponsor or cosponsor these two budget resolutions. You can do so by going to: https://njcatholic.org/faith-in-action

State Secretary Report (Jim Sweeney) – State Secretary was not in attendance.
