Last Edition of 61-Hundred

Wow!! Twenty-Four + Years

In July 1996 John Girvin became Grand Knight of our Council. He was editor of our newsletter since taking over the task from Bill Nolan in August 1992. One evening in early July 1996 John invited me to his home to ask if I was interested in becoming editor of our newsletter. He said he would not be able to be Grand Knight and editor at the same time. I said I was interested and would give it a try.
The September 1996 newsletter was my first. I thought I would publish the newsletters a few years until another brother in the Council wanted to take over. Well that never happened! Now 293 months later,
3
it is January 2021 and this is the last edition of our newsletter. With the upgrading of the Council’s website by Brother Dan Fuller it makes the newsletter unnecessary.
Back in 1996 over 200 copies were printed, which were then folded, stapled and a mailing label applied. The council had a mailing permit, which greatly lowered the postage cost. I first had the help of Jim Byrne, who folded, stapled, applied the mailing label and delivered the newsletters to the Budd Lake Post Office. A few years later, Dave Teller and his wife Judy assisted for several more years.
In October 2014 the newsletter became digital and was put on the Council’s website. Since that date, only 30-35 copies have been printed and mailed monthly. This greatly lowered the monthly cost, even though the mailing of the newsletter required first-class postage.
I would like to thank all the contributors throughout the 24 years who have had a part in making my task easier. And I would like to thank my wife Jackie who proof-read the newsletter for mistakes before it went to press.
During this time the newsletter has won 10 awards as the best newsletter in the Paterson Federation and one award as the best newsletter in the state of New Jersey.
It has been an honor to serve the Council in this manner, and I now can retire! Thank you Dan Fuller!!!
