2023 Scholarship Winners Announced

On Monday night June 5th Council 6100 presented scholarships to 5 high school students at the Senior Awards Ceremony held at the Mount Olive HS Performing Arts Center.  The 4 Council 6100 scholarships presented by our Scholarship Chair Tom DeLalla were awarded to:

  • Julia Klatt                $1500  
  • Stephen Mickus   $1000 
  • Joseph Drew           $500  
  • Julia Kapitula         $500 

The Thomas Christopher DeLalla Memorial Scholarship was presented by Tom DeLalla and awarded to:

  • Dominic Giacchino    $1000 

The Ernest A. DiCicco Sr. Memorial Scholarship was presented by Ernie DiCicco and awarded to:

  • Julia Klatt    $4000 – $1000/yr – 4 years  

This brings the total to over $180,000 in scholarship monies awarded over the past 27 years through our Council to students in our Mount Olive community. 

Our Council Scholarship Committee, Dan Fuller, Jim Sweeney, Dave Rose, Lenny Martin, and Tom DeLalla, selected the winners from a pool of 17 applications based on the highest appraisals across 5 categories: Scholastic Achievement, Church/Religious Institution activities, Community activities, Extra Curricular activities and Essay.  Each committee member independently reviews and scores each application. As in all previous years, to remove any bias in the selection process, all applications are reviewed by the committee with the applicant’s identity removed.

The Thomas Christopher DeLalla Memorial Scholarship, in its 19th year, was selected by the DeLalla family from a pool of 12 applicants and awarded to the candidate who best met the scholarship criteria for accomplishment, commitment, dedication, and leadership in activities and organizations to benefit others, the community and the youth of Mount Olive Township. 

This is the 17th year the Ernest A. DiCicco Sr. Memorial Scholarship was awarded in the amount of $4000 ($1000/yr for 4 years). The winner was chosen by the DiCicco family from a pool of 12 applicants.  The selection was made based on overall participation in church, community, and school activities in addition to a 500-word essay. This $1000/year scholarship will be renewed annually for up to 4 years providing student maintains a B average and is a full-time student. Funding for this scholarship is provided through contributions to The DiCicco Family Scholarship Fund.

In addition to these 6 scholarships, the recipients of the 2023 Council 6100 Member Service Scholarships, in the amount of $500 each, are awarded to:

  • Stephen Mickus – son of brother Shaun Mickus.
  • Olivia Foley – daughter of brother Ryan Foley

This onetime scholarship is only available to graduating high school students who are children of Council 6100 members.  It is based in part on the Council members being in good standing, length of service and the member’s active service working our weekly bingo fund raiser.
