Grand Knight’s August Update

Brothers,

I hope you are enjoying your summer.

Linda and I just got back from the Outer Banks in North Carolina. We had never been there before and never realized how beautiful it is.  It was a great trip and a pretty quiet and relaxing vacation. Most important, we got a chance to focus on each other. That’s something I recommend all couples try to find time to do and that is the reason why this update is late. Back to reality.

Bingo Update:

  • I want to thank everyone who responded to our plea for help on 8/5. Thank you.
  • Attendance has been high. The last two weeks we have had 127 and 120 players!
  • Our new system is up and running and most of the kinks have been ironed out. A huge thank you to Joe Tarallo and Tom Rohe for getting this all straightened out!
  • We still really need more bingo workers. We have a few people who are working bingo every week. That is not fair to them or their families. Please consider committing to one Friday a month even if it is just until bingo starts so we can get through admission and selling most of the pull tabs.
  • Depending on your response to our plea for additional weekly help, we may need to consider getting paid help in the kitchen. This will reduce our bingo profits and our charitable giving.

Upcoming business Meeting:

Our August 15th meeting will begin with Pizza at 6:45, followed by the Rosary at 7:10 and the business meeting at 7:30.

Our September business meeting will be held at Enzo’s on 9/19. We will be having food before the meeting starting at 6:45. We hope you can come.

Shed Cleanout:

We have been trying to clean out our new shed. When we moved from the storage unit to the shed, we just brought everything with us. A lot of it will never be used again, some of it can only be used if we owned our own facility. That is not likely to happen.

  • Some of the items that are still useful to someone will be brought to the October Business Meeting, free on a first come basis.
  • We have several totes of plaques. We have no place to display them. We are going to offer any plaques received to any Past Grand Knight who was Grand Knight during that time period. After that, they will be up for grabs. Anything left will be discarded. I need someone to head an effort to take pictures of all plaques so we can post them on the web site for archival purposes.

Programs:

  • Charity Mania – Football season is almost on us. Please return any outstanding tickets to Tom Rohe ASAP. If you need more tickets, please contact Tom directly trohekofc@gmail.com. To purchase tickets online –  http://www.charitymania.com/give/AC03A
  • Blood Drive – Our next blood drive is on 8/20. If you would like to help, please contact Gerard Petrocelli or just show up and help!
  • Drive for Citizens with Disabilities – We are going to do a mini-drive this fall. We have not done a drive since Covid. We are targeting October 8-9 but that is subject to change. Stay tuned for details.

Quarterly Knight’s Mass:

We are going to re-establish this event again with some additional changes. As Knights, we need to focus on the Eucharist and our Faith. This opportunity to worship fraternally can only strengthen our resolve for charitable results. One of my goals as GK will be to put a renewed focus on our faith as Knights.

State Retreat:

This year’s retreat will be at San Alfonso Retreat House in Long Branch on 10/22-24. The council will be voting this month on subsidizing attendance.

Where You Can Help:

  • We need a faith director
  • Bingo help – Please commit to one Friday a month
  • Need someone to take pictures of all our plaques
  • Blood Drive on 8/20
  • Looking for someone to run the Soccer Challenge this year.

If you can help with any of these things, please contact me directly. mailto:dxfuller1987@gmail.com or 862 432-5221
