Locations will be Weis in Flanders (need 2 for each shift to cover both doors), Dunkin on Rt. 46 next to Jersey Mike’s, Budd Lake Diner and St. Jude’s Church. The program is sponsored by the State Council and supports organizations including Special Olympics New Jersey, the county ARCs (for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities), Camp Recreations, local schools, independent living, and residential care facilities. The Squires have signed up for several slots on Saturday and Sunday but there are still open slots remaining.

Soup Kitchen (Lenny Martin)– Scheduled for next week and Lenny will report back.
Blood Drive (Gerard Petrocelli) – At the April drive, we collected 172 products with 106 whole blood donations and 33 ALYX. There were 9 deferrals. This was a great result. We had good volunteer help with setup and breakdown. It takes about 2 hours to set up. June 7 is the next drive from 6:30am to 12:30pm. We need help to advertise the drive and clean up after. The need for blood donors remains important.

- April Religious & Civil Rights (R&C) Talking Points highlights from Dr. Dan Rossi, PSD:
- May 16-18: State Convention in Wildwood.
This month’s topic for discussion and prayer focuses on the protection of female athletes.
You can read Dr. Rossi’s message on the following page.
A BLESSED EASTER TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES
Worthy Grand Knights, Worthy Religious & Civil Rights Committee Chairmen, and Brothers all:
This month’s topic for discussion and prayer focuses on the protection of female athletes. The following talking points are primarily taken from a recent letter from Most Rev. Robert E. Barron, Bishop of Winona-Rochester and chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life, and Youth, and Most Rev. David M. O’Connell, Bishop of Trenton and chairman of the USCCB’s Committee on Catholic Education, to U.S. Senators in support of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025.
• The Catholic Church’s teaching is clear in terms of it advocacy of equal dignity of men and women, recognizing that God created us male and female.
• It is important to avoid any policies for education and sports that undermine human dignity, including denial of a person’s body, which is genetically and biologically female or male, or unequal treatment between women and men.
• Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 established equal educational opportunities for women and girls.
• The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act would help ensure the continued viability of Title IX and has had USCCB’s support in the last several Congresses.
• Equal treatment between women and men has particular relevance in athletics, where male competition in activities designated for women and girls can be both unfair and unsafe, especially in contact or interactive sports.
• In general, males possess distinct physical differences and advantages in a number of sports. Their stature can pose physical safety risks in high-contact or aggressive interactive sports.
• Neither of these concerns is remediated by cross-sex hormone procedures which are required by some athletic associations for participation in sports of the opposite sex, as they do not fully address disparities in average muscle mass, bone characteristics, and lung capacity once puberty is under way (which is typically the case for student athletes).
• The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act would begin to address these issues by ensuring that women’s and girl’s opportunities in athletics are protected.
• This legislation was passed by the House of Representatives, and is now under consideration by the Senate.
Please consider contacting our U.S. Senators and encouraging them to support the passage of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025 (S. 9).
