Merry Christmas!
Brothers,
I am writing this at 5 AM on Christmas Eve, sitting in the dark with the tree on, while everyone is sleeping like normal people do when you don’t have to go anywhere. 5 AM in the dark is a wonderful time to think and I realize that I am not in the dark. The tree is shining brightly and so is the beautiful symbol that it represents. Christ is coming into the world to bring His message of salvation and peace and that is a beautiful thing.
I am told I am a hard person to buy gifts for. As I tell my family, “What I really want you and I can’t afford.” I have everything I need and that is a blessing that I recognize is not the truth for everyone.
I never go hungry. I am warm on this zero-degree morning. I have all the clothes I need and some I never wear. I have my healthy family around me with lots to celebrate. Lindsay and her husband Chris bought their first home last week and Matt and his girlfriend Grace are now engaged. I am blessed.
As Knights, we work hard to help those who are not as blessed as we are. Afterall, Jesus has challenged us to recognize the blessings God has given us, and, since these blessing come from God, they don’t belong to us. We are expected to share them with those who need them.
This time of year, people open their hearts and wallets to others more freely because the spirit of Christmas is upon them. Let’s challenge ourselves to keep the spirit of Christmas alive all year long.
Linda and I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Thank you all for what you do for the council and your friendship.
Sincerely,
