Our 2022 Scholarship Winners Announced

Grand Knight Joe D’Anna presented 3 of our 4 Council scholarships to graduating MOHS students on Wednesday night June 8th at the Senior Awards Ceremony held at the Mount Olive HS Performing Arts Center.  The 4th scholarship will be presented by our Grand Knight to Christine Hruby at an upcoming Business meeting. Christine is the daughter of Council Member Joe Hruby and a graduating senior from Pope John High School.  The Council scholarships for 2022 were awarded to:

  • Jake Clemente – $1500
  • Jacob Soriano – $1000
  • Christine Hruby – $500
  • Aveena Khanderia – $500

The Thomas Christopher DeLalla Memorial Scholarship was also presented by GK Joe D’Anna and awarded to:

  • Jake Clemente – $1000

The Ernie DiCicco Sr. Memorial Scholarship was presented by PGK Ernie DiCicco and awarded to:

  • Jake Clemente – $4000 ($1000/yr – 4 years)

This brings the total to over $170,000 in scholarship monies awarded over the past 26 years through our Council to students in our Mount Olive community. Our Council Scholarship Committee, Jim Sweeney, Dave Rose, Lenny Martin, Joe D’Anna and Tom DeLalla, selected the winners from a pool of 9 applications based on the highest appraisals across 5 categories: Scholastic Achievement, Church/Religious Institution activities, Community activities, Extra Curricular activities and Essay. 

The Thomas Christopher DeLalla Memorial Scholarship, now in its 18th year, was selected by the DeLalla family from a pool of 9 applicants and awarded to the candidate who best met the scholarship criteria for accomplishment, commitment, dedication, and leadership in activities and organizations to benefit others, the community and the youth of Mount Olive Township. 

This is the 16th year the Ernie DiCicco Sr. scholarship was awarded in the amount of $4000 ($1000/yr for 4 years). The winner was chosen by the DiCicco family from a pool of 10 applicants.  The selection was made based on overall participation in church, community, and school activities in addition to a 500-word essay.  Funding for this scholarship is provided through contributions to the Council 6100 Scholarship Fund specifically made in memory of Ernie DiCicco Sr.  This $1000/year scholarship will be renewed annually for up to 4 years providing student maintains a B average and is a full-time student.

In addition to these 6 scholarships the recipient of the 2022 Council 6100 Member Service Scholarship in the amount of $500 is awarded to:

  • Christine Hruby – daughter Council Member Joe Hruby.

This onetime scholarship is only available to graduating high school students who are children of Council 6100 members.  It is based in part on the Council members being in good standing, length of service and the member’s active service working our weekly bingo fund raiser.
