February 2023 Meeting Minutes
February 20, 2023
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 7:31 pm by Grand Knight (GK) Dan Fuller.
Warden’s Report
All present were in possession of a current membership card.
Opening Prayer
Opening prayer was led by Grand Knight (GK) Dan Fuller.
Pledge of Allegiance
Salute to the flag was led by the council members.
Roll Call of Officers
N/A- per new format
Chaplain report
There was no chaplain report as the chaplain was not present.
Minutes of the Previous Meeting
The minutes of the previous meeting were not posted and will be voted on next meeting.
Grand Knight’s Report (Dan Fuller)
- Haven’t heard anything from the CareNet in Hackettstown
- Lent is coming up
- Knights retreat is coming up being led by Father Ben and is open to all of the men in the parish.
- We need to start doing more events that relate to the parish.
- The people of the parish hardly see what we do and our impact
- Proposed idea to get spanish translated books in the parish
- There is an upcoming KOFC convention in May
- Ways to help:
- Bingo every friday night
- We need help digitizing our records
- There is also an online finance session on March 2nd.
Treasurer’s Report (Wally)
The bank statement was sent to the trustees – a copy can be requested by request.
Membership Report (Chip Sturm)
- Waiting on two pending applications (Degrasso father & son)
Financial Secretary’s Report (Gerard)
Financial secretary’s report is emailed in advance to Trustees for approval of expenditures.
Program Reports – Led by Dan Fuller
Bingo (Dan Fuller) – Bingo is going well; we had a medical emergency on friday (the patron I believe is named Nancy, and I believe she is doing well).
Blood drive (Gerard) – We had 127 people register for the blood drive on Feb 18th, 11 deferred, 98 whole blood donations and 18 double red. The total donations came to 134. Thank you for all of your help & special shout out to Pierre for his assistance with the blood drive.
Squires (Tom Rohe) – Squires are still alive and well! March 25th state squires retreat and service. The squires spent half a day working and then the other half of the day is a retreat. On psalm sunday, the annual easter egg hunt, and the tank pull is scheduled for the end of June.
Fourth Degree (Tom Rohe) – Anyone interested in the 4th degree is welcome to come to the meeting
Soup Kitchen (Lenny) – We had a soup kitchen last week in Dover, we served 87 meals and 52 takeouts. We received the food from the restaurant depot, and went to the kitchen to go cook it.
Knights Retreat (Gerry) – There is going to be a Knight’s retreat on March 18th – From 9:00AM to 1:00PM – this is open to all men in the parish, and there will be a sign up in the narthex
Unfinished Business
- Motion to donate $250 to the Mesulam Center in honor of brother Bruce Bott made by Jake C, seconded by Gerry passed
- Motion to donate $250 to Smile Train in honor of Bruce Bott made by Sean and seconded by Lenny passed
- Motion to donate $250 donation to Mike Leyden for the polar bear plunge. Made by Tom Rohe, seconded by Joe Tarallo passed
- First reading of a motion to donate a total of $2,000 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, equally supporting the fundraising campaigns of four Mt. Olive high school students (Gabriella, Jenna, Simran, and Caroline) for $500 each. – made by Gerard and seconded by Chip – first reading is passed
- $500 to support another Seminarian through the RSVP program – made by Gerry and seconded by Jake C passed
- Motion to change the building fund account to the “Community and Faith Impact Fund” (The proposed guidelines will be handed out at the meeting & posted on the website).
- Made by Chip and seconded by Sean – one abstention – first reading is passed
- Motion to donate up to $160 to build the parish’s spanish language books – made by Jerry and seconded by Pierre passed
District Deputy Report (Bob Hull)
- Focus on growing the membership not so much the quota
- I highly recommend reading the crusader magazine
- 40 days for life started this wednesday
- Please support your polar bear plunge brothers
- The next federation meeting is April 14th in Hamburg.
- The state convention is on May 19-21.
- New jersey is passing a lot of pro-abortion laws
Worthy state treasurer (Jim Sweeny)
- Thank you for your contribution to the coats for kids drive
- I suggest doing something positive for lent
