Knight of the Month for February 2023

Deputy Grand Knight Shaun Mickus receiving his recognition

This Brother Knight joined our Order on May 23, 2022. He and his family are parishioners at St. Jude and a fixture of the 8:00 mass where he has served as an usher for many years.

Since becoming a Knight, he has enthusiastically participated in and led several activities including cooking at the blood drives and recently organizing a very successful and last-minute Intellectual Disabilities drive. He serves as our council’s Deputy Grand Knight and we are lucky to have him.

As a Knight, the are many ways to show our faith in action. There is perhaps no greater show of love and faith than by helping to preserve life. Many of us work towards the  cause of life. However, few of us prepare and train ourselves to know what to do when a health emergency arises and to be prepared to act, in a moment, when every moment counts. He has taken extensive training and has become a certified EMT. He volunteers many hours a week to be there for our friends, neighbors, and family when we need his skills the most.

These skills and willingness to help were demonstrated to many of us this past week when he, along with another EMT present, jumped into action when a true health emergency occurred at bingo. They both knew what to do in the moment and their quick action preserved life. While some of us were praying for God’s help, they were doing God’s work.

It is for these reasons that I am proud to declare Shaun Mickus, Deputy Grand Knight of our Council, the Fr. Joseph A. Cassidy Council 6100 Knight of the Month for February 2023.
