September Grand Knight’s Update
Summer went fast! I can’t believe that it is September already. I hope that you have had a chance to recharge with your friends and family. I love September weather, warm days, and cool nights. For me, September is the start of the fall hawk migration hawk-watching season. One of my hobbies is participating in the fall migration counts at a few different locations in northern NJ.
August was tough. The death of our friend and Brother Knight Deacon John Sanker, PGK, PFN, PFC was hard on us all. I was pleased to see a large participation from our Council and Parish community at the Rosary vigils, wake and funeral. I don’t know if John knew the extent of our fondness for him when he was alive, I hope he did, but I know he knew of it after his death. Tempus Fugit Brothers!
John’s family has expressed their thanks to all of us for our support. They appreciated the Honor Guard at his wake. So that you all know, we also provided financial support to feed the family during the wake and the repast after the funeral.
August brought some good news too. We had a successful blood drive that I know Gerard will report on. Bingo has been incredibly successful and is beginning to bring an infusion of cash into our coffers after two-plus years without any significant income.
Our Brother Andrew Rodriguez was married at St. Jude on August 27. Congratulations to the Bride and Groom!
September brings an opportunity to get back to work. We have a membership drive coming up on the weekend of 9/17-18. Please help out in the vestibule after mass. Membership is crucial to our success. If you are not growing you are dying and I don’t want that to happen to our Council. If you know someone who would make a good Knight, please approach them. Most of us joined the Council because someone asked us to.
Our September business meeting will be at Enzos on Rt 46 in Budd lake on 9/18. We will begin gathering at 6:45 for dinner. The Rosary will be said at 7:15 followed by our meeting. I hope you can attend.
In October we will be doing a drive for citizens with special needs. We will be looking for volunteers to collect money in two-hour shifts. Deputy Grand Knight Shaun Mickus will be leading this event.
The State retreat is also in October at St. Alfonso Retreat House. Please contact me if you are interested in attending.
Please check out the calendar on our website kofc6100.org for additional events.
There are a couple of Brothers in the council who are facing job loss. I know firsthand how difficult this time can be for them and their families. Please include them in your prayers.
Finally, I would like to thank you all for your support. Every time I have needed something, someone has stepped up to help. I can’t ask for more than that.
Dan Fuller
Grand Knight
There’s work to be done, let’s get to it.
